Welcome to CostSplit. By downloading, installing, or using our mobile application ("App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using CostSplit, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use our services.

2. Description of Service

CostSplit is an expense tracking and splitting application that allows users to:

• Create groups for shared expenses
• Record and categorize expenses
• Split expenses equally, by amount, or by percentage
• Track balances between group members
• Record settlements and payments
• Invite friends and manage group memberships

CostSplit is an expense tracking tool, not a financial institution. We do not process, hold, or transfer money between users. CostSplit is a record-keeping tool that helps users track who owes whom.

3. Account Registration

To access certain features of the App, you must create an account. You agree to:

• Provide accurate and complete registration information
• Maintain the security of your account credentials
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
• Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account

4. User Conduct

When using CostSplit, you agree not to:

• Violate any applicable laws or regulations
• Harass, abuse, or harm other users
• Use offensive, inappropriate, or vulgar language or content
• Impersonate any person or entity
• Interfere with or disrupt the App or servers
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the App or other accounts
• Use automated systems to access the App (bots, scrapers, etc.)
• Exploit bugs or vulnerabilities in the App
• Enter fraudulent or intentionally inaccurate expense data

5. Intellectual Property

All content in CostSplit, including but not limited to designs, logos, icons, and software, is owned by CostSplit or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not:

• Copy, modify, or distribute our content
• Reverse engineer or decompile the App
• Use our content for commercial purposes without permission
• Remove any copyright or proprietary notices

6. User Content

Any content you create or share through the App (such as expense descriptions, group names, or receipt photos) remains yours. However, by sharing content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute such content in connection with operating and improving our services.

7. In-App Purchases

The App may offer in-app purchases for additional features or premium services. All purchases are final and non-refundable, except as required by applicable law. Prices may change at any time without notice.

8. Disclaimers

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF VIRUSES OR OTHER HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

CostSplit does not guarantee the accuracy of expense calculations or balances. Users are responsible for verifying the accuracy of all financial information entered into the App.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COSTSPLIT SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE APP, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO FINANCIAL DISPUTES BETWEEN USERS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE PAST TWELVE MONTHS.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CostSplit and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses arising from your use of the App or violation of these Terms.

11. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice. Upon termination, your right to use the App will immediately cease. You may also delete your account at any time through the App settings.

12. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the new Terms on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

13. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which CostSplit operates, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

14. Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through informal negotiation. If a resolution cannot be reached, disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with applicable arbitration rules.

15. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
